Taking these factors into account, you can choose the most suitable O-ring to ensure the sealing effect and long-term stability of the equipment or system.
What factors should be considered in choosing the right O-ring

When choosing the right O-ring, you need to consider the following factors:

Materials:

Different O-ring materials have different temperature resistance, chemical resistance, pressure resistance, etc. Common materials include rubber (such as fluoro rubber, perfluoro rubber, nitrile rubber, silicone rubber, etc.), plastic (such as PTFE), and metal materials.

Select the right material based on the chemicals, temperature and pressure in the working environment.

Size:

The inner diameter, outer diameter and section diameter of the O-ring are very important. When selecting, it is necessary to ensure that the size of the O-ring meets the requirements of the equipment or pipeline to ensure the sealing effect.

If the size is not appropriate, it may cause leakage or damage to the O-ring.

Temperature and pressure of working environment:

O-rings behave differently at high or low temperatures, and some materials may age at high temperatures and become brittle at low temperatures. If the working pressure is high, it is necessary to choose a material with strong pressure resistance and a suitable size.

Type of media:

The medium the O-ring is in contact with (such as oil, water, gas, chemicals, etc.) will affect the material selected. For example, fluorine rubber is suitable for dealing with acidic or corrosive media, silicone rubber is suitable for food grade or biocompatibility requirements of the environment, perfluorinated rubber is suitable for a variety of strong acids, alkali, solvents, petroleum products, oxidants, acid gas, steam, chloride and fluoride and other corrosive and high temperature media sealing needs.

Hardness:

The hardness of the O-ring will affect the sealing performance and durability. Usually the hardness range of O-ring is 30-90 Shore A, too high hardness may lead to poor sealing, too low is easy to deformation damage.

Working mode:

The mode of operation of the O-ring (such as dynamic or static sealing) also determines the choice of material. For example, in dynamic sealing applications, O-rings wear out with the movement of components, requiring better wear resistance and elasticity.

Taking these factors into account, you can choose the most suitable O-ring to ensure the sealing effect and long-term stability of the equipment or system.
